screwball tonic
The thing about old movies is not only they're mostly in black and white, but the actors enunciate properly. The rapid fire dialogue in His Girl Friday may be too fast in today's comedy but sure sounds smart and eloquent. Cary Grant is suave debonair as a newspaper editor while Rosalind Russell as competent reporter means business. Yes, women worked just as hard as men, even during the thirties, there's none of those glorified housewife roles. The film is almost a romantic comedy but only just, nonetheless still titillating. Ah the magic of old Hollywood.
